“Every coach who comes to LSU, I tell them all the same. I am loyal to the three letters, not yours. So you will always get honesty from me because I am loyal to my program and loyal because I want to see those children win and I want LSU to be successful, ”McFarland added.
Brian Kelly left Notre Dame to sign a ten -year contract worth $ 95 million in 2021 with the Tigers. In his first three years at Baton Rouge, however, the Tigers still have to get the College Football Playoff. They played for the SEC championship in 2022, but lost conveniently from Georgia with 50-30.
Kelly and the Tigers closed the 2024 season with a record of 9-4 and defeated the Baylor Bears 44-31 in the Texas Bowl. Despite the loss of some talent, the Tigers Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier will have back and they are in the first place in the ranking of the transfer portal of 247Sports.
Brian Kelly hopes that Notre Dame will win the National Championship

The departure of Brian Kelly from Notre Dame was a controversial subject. Nevertheless, the current head coach of the LSU Tigers had no problem telling CBS Sports that he will argue for the Fighting Irish in the National Championship Game.
“I am happy for all those guys, I thumb for them,” Kelly told Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports. “I have recruited many of the boys there on both sides of the ball. Of course I want to see those guys win everything, and I think they are in a great position. I am completely excited for those guys. ”
Fans responded violently to Kelly’s comments. One problem is that when Kelly South Bend left LSU, he said he wanted to go to “an environment where I have the means to win a national championship.”
While Kelly and the Tigers have not reached the CFP for three years, Fighting Irish will play against Ohio State on Monday evening for the national title.
During his eleven -year -old period as head coach of Notre Dame, Kelly had a number of competitive teams. The most striking was that the Irish reached the championship match after an unbeaten season 2012. However, they were crushed by Alabama with 42–14.
