Fox News’ Jessica Tarlov struggled to understand Donald Trump’s confusing answer Thursday to a question about making child care more affordable.
“I would challenge any of you to listen to his answer about childcare and tell me what the hell he was talking about,” “The Five” co-host said of the former president.
“It was one of the most incoherent things I’ve ever heard.”
The Republican candidate, who has raised questions about his mental state sharpness during his campaign, he gave a rambling answer when asked at the Economic Club of New York whether he would commit to prioritizing child care legislation if he returned to the White House.
“It is a very important issue. But I think when you’re talking about the kind of numbers that I’m talking about, that – because childcare is childcare. It’s, it can’t be, you know, there’s something, you gotta have it – in this country you gotta have it,” Trump said before turning to talk about imposing tariffs on imported goods.
Tarlov stated that the former president’s comments “really highlight a major problem.”
“Everyone says, ‘Well, Trump is so transparent and Trump is out there and that’s all that matters.’ What counts is the content of what he says and none of it, none of it is explainable,” Tarlov said.
She noted that child care costs are a “big priority” for people, an issue she described as a “central plank” of Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign.
“He has no answer except rates and [Trump’s running mate] J.D. Vance was talking yesterday about how grandma and grandpa just need to do more, that that’s kind of a solution for people,” Tarlov said, referring to the Ohio senator’s suggestion to lower child care costs.
She continued: “He’s going to get energy prices – drill, baby, drill – even though we’re producing more oil than ever before and leading the world. More tax cuts for the rich and tariffs are the only way we can pay for it.”
