Many of us are best known with Google Assistant thanks to the recording of the smart speakers of the company, but the modest assistant has been an important part of every Android telephone and tablet since 2016. Now the time comes to an end.
Google has announced that Google Assistant will be replaced by Gemini, the next generation AI assistant, in all except the most basic devices.
Google Assistant may have brought about a revolution in speech assistants, but today it almost seems … outdated. Gemini is now more advanced, personal and intuitive.
Google says that millions of users have already made the switch to Gemini, and in the coming months, remaining users will automatically be upgraded, with the old assistant disappearing from the Google Play Store and most Android devices by the end of the year.
Google has not specified an exact date or period for the change and only says that it will take place “in the coming months”.

This is not only a straight switch from Google Assistant to Gemini: the new AI tool brings many new functions.
Just like Assistant, Gemini supports daily tasks such as playing music and setting timers, but it also introduces AI-driven functions such as Gemini live for dynamic conversations, and deep research for more in-depth help. What is more, it can remind itself of chats from the past to offer more relevant answers, look up your search history and you can even access it from your lock screen.
Google Assistant had a great run, but now it’s Gemini’s turn. Let’s hope that Gemini can be familiar with our data.
