Conservative attorney George Conway had a logical explanation for why Donald Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), disappeared from the campaign trail on Monday.
Conway, a longtime “never Trumper,” shared an MSNBC report noting that Trump and Vance were missing on Labor Day — and then snarked that their absence could help the GOP ticket.
“Actually, Trump and Vance are better off the less people see of them,” he wrote;
Trump fired off a few messages on his Truth Social website, but neither he nor Vance held public events during the holiday.
The Harris camp called them out on it.
“Donald Trump is dumping workers on Labor Day because he is an anti-labor, anti-union extremist who will sell out working families to his billionaire donors if he takes power,” Harris campaign spokesman Joseph Costello said in a statement. “Vice President Harris is the only presidential candidate who stands firmly on the side of labor and working Americans, and she is fighting to build the middle class by cutting taxes, lowering costs and creating opportunity.”
