The X files star Gillian Anderson explained why she kissed her costar via a new TikTok video David Duchovny for her then boyfriend, Rodney Rowland at the 1997 Emmy Awards.
Anderson, 55, planted Duchovny, 63, on the lips after she was announced as the winner of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. After her kiss with Duchovny, who sat behind her, she shared a kiss with Rowland, who sat next to her, before taking the stage to accept her award.

Well, let Anderson clear it up for you: “David and I actually lived together and Rodney was my beard,” the actress said in a TikTok video shared on Friday, August 3.
“That’s just a joke,” she added quickly. “Was that really mean?”

“I don’t know why I kissed him first,” Anderson further explained. “I think because he was on the show with me and we were practically married? We spent more time with each other than with our loved ones. We were there to celebrate the series and so, yeah, maybe that’s what it was. Don’t know.”
Anderson said Rowland was a “great guy” and she doesn’t think her kiss with Duchovny “bothered him.”
“He understood… that it was complex,” she concluded. “That’s all I have.”
X files Fanatics have wanted to bring Anderson and Duchovny together, just like their characters Scully and Fox Mulder, for almost thirty years, but it looks like they’ll have to settle for their on-screen chemistry.
“The whole Gillian and I dating thing is so weird. It never happened, it’s not going to happen, we’re friends. I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but no, that’s not going to happen. It didn’t happen,” Duchovny said TVLine in a 2015 interview.
At the time, the longtime costars caused a frenzy among fans when Duchovny kissed Anderson during a concert in New York City to promote his debut album, Hell or High Water.
‘I see Gillian, I kiss her hello. She’s my girlfriend. If someone gets a picture of that, if it’s on stage and she comes up to sing with me, I’m going to kiss her hello,” Duchovny told TVLine.
“I wish the show would be enough. I don’t understand why people want more from Gillian and me. No way,” he added. “You can have Mulder and Scully, and that should be enough.”
