Google Pixel 10: Release date, price and specifications rumors

Cameras

The Pixel telephones from Google are always known for their great camera performance, especially in terms of computational photography. And with the adapted ISP in Tensor G5, things get even better.

That said, a report has revealed that camerahardware in the reach of Pixel 10 is getting important changes – although not necessarily improvements.

Starting with the Pixel 10, it will indeed have a telephoto lens, confirmed as an 11MP Samsung 3J1 – found the same in the Pixel 9 Pro fold. However, that entails costs.

The main sensor is lowered from the 50MP Samsung GNV to the smaller 50MP Samsung GN8, while the UltraWide shifts from a 48MP Sony IMX858 to a 13MP Sony IMX712. These same sensors were previously used in the Pixel 9a.

The selfie camera also changes, from a 13MP IMX712 to the same 11MP Samsung 3J1. Although Google could use advanced AI and ISP processing to improve the results, the smaller sensors can lead to poorer performance with little light and reduced image detail.

The Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL, on the other hand, will allows you to stick to the same camera hardware as last year: a 50MP Samsung GNV primary sensor and a 48MP Sony IMX858 for ultrawide, telephone and front-facing tasks. However, the new Tensor G5 ISP can help to squeeze more out of the existing setup.

In the meantime, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold receives a small update, with the most important 64MP Sony IMX787 of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold replaced by the 50MP Samsung GN8, again used in the Pixel 9a. Apart from this primary lens change, the rest of the camera configuration remains untouched.

These changes indicate a wider strategy of Google: the basic model distinguishes more clearly from the pro devices. But with the basic mixel 10 effective using Pixel 9a-grade hardware plus a counting, it can be a tough sale at around £ 800/$ 800, unless software output yields meaningful profit.

The Pixel 10 series will probably also continue to concentrate on AI-driven improvements instead of just these hardware upgrades.

New functions can include improvements in Nachtzicht, astrophotography and portrait mode, using AI to further improve image quality, even in challenging lighting conditions.

Moreover, Google could improve the videoeast, which debuted in the Pixel 8 series, to offer even better video babilization and clarity, making the Pixel 10 a go-to-to-device for mobile videographers.

Another area of improvement can be in zoom reinforcement that AI uses to maintain sculpture at higher zoom levels without needing mass physical camera sensors.

With the increasing emphasis of Google on AI image processing, it is likely that the Pixel 10 will go even further, which makes it possible to add higher quality recordings without adding bulk to the camera system.

Finally, we can expect AI-driven functions such as ‘Add Me’ and ‘Reimagine’ to make their debut on the Pixel 9-Series-Om, giving users more creative tools to edit and perfect their photos.

The recent leak of the aforementioned GCHIPS division of Google has thrown more light on advanced AI and camera functions.

With the Pixel 10, powered by the Tensor G5, users can expect 4K HDR video recording at 60 fps, a substantial upgrade of the 30 fps limit on the Pixel 9, making Google’s devices closer to the possibilities of its competitors.

The G5 can also introduce AI-driven video editing functions, including ‘generative AI-based intuitive video editing’ in Google photos, which could function as a ‘magical editor’ for videos.

Additional editing tools, such as ‘Speak-to-tweak’ for speech-controlled adjustments and ‘sketch-to-image’ to make sketches in photos, aimed at simplifying and improving the editing experience.

In addition, the Tensor G5 can enable the processing on the device for stable diffusion models, which must stimulate generative editing options without needing cloud support.
