The Pixel 9a has been announced and one of the functions in particular brings many flagship smartphone into the shade.
The latest Mid-Range handset from Google offers a new (and somewhat controversial) design language, as well as Pixel 9 levels for performance to the party.
However, those are not the additions that attracted our attention.
Pixel 9a brings good news for power consumers
Google has mounted the Pixel 9A with a 5100 mAh battery.
It has done this without resorting to the space-saving (but presumably expensive) Silicon Carbon technology, as seen in the OnePlus 13, making the 186g weight of the Pixel 9a all the more impressive.
It also makes the Pixel 9A battery the largest ever used in a pixel device. It is not only much larger than the 4492 MAH cell of the Pixel 8a, but it is also larger than that of the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Of course the 4650 mAh of that device is not that big in the large diagram of things, but folding things are not exactly known for the incredible battery life.
More impressive, the 5100 mAh battery of the Pixel 9a is larger than that of the super-large Pixel 9 Pro XL, which comes in at 5060 mAh. We only talk a little less, but just look at the size of the flag telephone of Google as a whole and the huge, sharp 6.8 -inch QHD+ display that it is running.
We have had somewhat mixed experiences with the endurance of the Pixel 9 Pro XL (ranging from average in our full assessment to strong use in the longer term), but we expect that the Pixel 9a in this department would make an impression.
Rivals in for a galaxy of pain
We also do not have to reserve our Pixel 9A battery comparisons with the Google Stable.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is generally a high-spec telephone, but the 5000 mAh battery looks almost strange compared to Google’s 186G Pocket Dynamo.
The comparison to the Pixel 9As Mid-Range Rivals, both the Nothing Phone (3A) Pro and the Samsung Galaxy A56 package in a 5000 mAh battery. This is considered pretty decent for a telephone of Sub-£ 500/$ 500.
