Grab and BYD enter into a strategic partnership to expand the range of electric vehicles in Southeast Asia

Agreement offers drivers a greater diversity of vehicles from which they can choose through fleet partners

GRAB, a leading SuperApp in Southeast Asia, and BYD have announced a regional partnership to expand access to a maximum of 50,000 BYD electric vehicles (EVs) to Grab’s driver partners in Southeast Asia, while the availability of green vehicles for grab users is enlarged.

Throughout Southeast Asia, the high initial costs remain an important barrier for the adoption of electric vehicles. Through this partnership, GAB and BYD want to encourage electrification of the transport sector in Southeast Asia by offering Grab’s fleet partners and driver partners access to BYD vehicles at the most competitive rates, with extensive guarantees on the Batteries of the EV vehicles. Drivers will have the option to rent the electric vehicles from Grab’s fleet partners or to opt for financing support through Grab’s car ownership programs. The partnership supports GAB’s deployment to help driver-partners to speed up the transition to emission-free transport methods. In countries such as Singapore and Thailand, Grab users can also choose to call in the ‘Eco-Friendly Ride’ option, whereby priority is given to the allocation of green vehicles without extra costs.

Liu Xueliang, General Manager of Byd Asia Pacific Auto Sales Division, said: “We are delighted to work with Grab as the leading provider of On-Demand Transport in Southeast Asia and to promote the transition to electric vehicles in the region . Byd, as the world’s leading manufacturer of new energy vehicles, our technology will best integrate with that of Grab, and we look forward to working with them to offer a unique and unparalleled experience for their drivers and users. We remain committed to our goal of building an emission -free ecosystem and we are committed to supporting Grab’s fleet and driver partners. Through this collaboration we work together with Grab to realize the vision of the one degree cooling of the earth. ”

In-depth technology integration to improve the efficiency and overall experience of grab services

BYD and GRAB will work together to enable an in-depth IoT integration between the vehicles and the platform and the services of Grab. Through this collaboration, Grab wants to reach the following:

• Safe rides and a more intuitive driving experience for driver partners: by installing the Grab drum application available in the main unit of BYD vehicles, drivers can view their duties, navigation and chats at a global screen. Screen, instead of having to switch back and forth on their smartphones. Sensor and telemetry data from BYD vehicles will also be integrated directly into the Grab platform, thereby gaining real-time insights into the ripening patterns and the driving behavior of drivers, which GAB can use to guide drivers in improving their driving behavior.

• Improved reliability: Because data such as windscreen wiper signals and driving speed are entered in real time in the Grab platform, Grab can distract external conditions such as weather and traffic faster and more accurately. When this data is traced back to Grab’s algorithm, they are then used to lead drivers to areas where there is probably a greater demand for journeys, so that there are enough drivers to absorb peaks in the number of passenger bookings. Real-time location data from the BYD fleet will also further increase the accuracy of Grab’s Backend system when distracting a more accurate estimated arrival time (ETA) for a ride.

• Better navigation and route determination: Both companies want to use the hyperlocal card data and services from Grab to enable smoother and more efficient trips for BYD drivers. This collaboration could also enable Gab to collect valuable road and traffic data from the vehicles, which may improve the map services.

The partnership includes Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam and includes a series of models, including the Denza D9, BYD Atto3, BYD Seal and BYD M6 cars. Grab plans that Denza, the premium brand for electric vehicles from BYD, will be the cornerstone of its Grabexec fleet with the Denza D9 luxury electric MPVs with seven seats. These vehicles are designed with the most modern characteristics to offer unparalleled comfort and luxury. By integrating the Denza D9 in his fleet, Grab wants to set a new standard in the field of management transport, anchored at convenience, style and sustainability.

Chuck Kim, Managing Director, Group Business Development, Grab, said: “Sustainable growth in Southeast Asia is a priority for us and we are always looking for improving our offer of both our driver partners and grab users. This cooperation enables us to help the transition to electric vehicles ahead by reducing the financial barriers that are often associated with electric vehicles, and offering economic benefits to our driver partners in the long term, including possibly savings on fuel costs. We are convinced that a reliable partner like BYD, who is committed to supplying high -quality vehicles and services, enables us to show the benefits of electric vehicles and to make green transport accessible to everyone. ”
