Vice President Kamala Harris is vowing to protect access to health care and US manufacturing jobs after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) admitted that Republicans are considering repealing key laws if they take power and Donald Trump wins the presidential election.
‘Healthcare reform will be a big part of the agenda’ Johnson said Monday at an event in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, according to NBC News. “When I say we will have a very aggressive agenda for the first 100 days, there are still a lot of things on the table.”
When asked a follow-up question about the Affordable Care Act, the law that established the program commonly known as Obamacare, Johnson confirmed that there would be “no more Obamacare” under a second Trump term. On Friday, he also presented the repeal of the CHIPS law, which provided for major investments in electronics manufacturing, when asked by a student journalist: before reportedly apologizing and claimed he had misunderstood the question.
Harris sharply denounced both ideas during a campaign stop Saturday in Wisconsin.
‘I would like to respond to the comments recently made by the Speaker of the House of Representatives’ she told reporters in Milwaukee. “It’s just further evidence of everything I’ve been talking about for months about Trump’s intention to implement Project 2025.”
Trump has denied any connection to Project 2025, a conservative playbook that proposes the elimination of entire federal agencies and the replacement of scores of officials with Trump loyalists. But many who helped draft it are still part of Trump’s job.
“We have spoken repeatedly about their intention to get rid of the Affordable Care Act — and now the CHIPS Act,” Harris said Saturday. “Let’s talk about manufacturing, which is a critical issue for many of the states that will make a difference in this election.”
The CHIPS Act was signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2022, but was celebrated as a bipartisan measure intended to increase competitiveness against China. It set aside $52 billion to strengthen the domestic computer chip sector and helped usher in a domestic manufacturing boom.
Harris reiterated that she plans to continue supporting these types of investments and generating “good union jobs.”

“That’s how we’re going to win the competition with China for the 21st century,” Harris said, “and that’s the kind of leadership America deserves in their president.”
