What would you call two Bald Eagle chicks? Talon? Sam Eagle? Leslie? Whatever your choice is, it can be a reality.
Jackie and Shadow, the internet-famous bare eagle couple, need your help to name their two surviving eagles. Submissions are now open until Friday, March 28 at 11:59 PM PST and can be submitted via the Friends of Big Bear Valley website. The Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Nest Cam broadcasts 24/7 thanks to friend of Big Bear Valley, a non -profit organization that streams without advertisements and depends on donations, including the naming match.
The costs are $ 5 for one name input, $ 10 for three name input or $ 25 for 10 name data.
FOBBV asks you to keep the names gender -neutral, because the gender of the chicks is not yet known. And keep the G-rating (no explicit, derogatory language, etc.) or your entry is automatically thrown. A computer then randomly selects a final list that is sent to students at Big Bear Elementary Schools. Traditionally, the honor is to choose the last names, reserved for local third classes, but because the eggs of Jackie and Shadow do not come out of the 2024 and their eggs from 2023 were eaten by ravens, the last names are chosen by 3rd, 4th and 5th classes.
On April 1, the children will vote with the winners announced later that day at the FOBBV officer Facebook” Instagram” YouTube pages. And if your name is selected, you will receive a recognition certificate.
It has been a roller coaster for the tens of thousands of viewers who are tuned in the Live Cam this year. Chick 1 came out late in the evening on March 3, followed by Chick 2 early March 4. Chick 3 came four days later 8 March from 8 March. A snowstorm touched the area in the evening of March 13, dumped to two feet of snow and pummels the nest with strong wind. On the morning of March 14, only two of the chicks were visible on the live cam. FOBBV confirmed the death of one of the chicks a day later.
FOBBV could not confirm which girl died, but because of the size of the surviving eagles, it was suspected that the chick was 1 or chick 2. The remaining chicks are now temporarily referred to as a larger chick (BC) and the smaller chick (SC). The chick that passes is called Misty in honor of Kathi Misterly, a FOBBV volunteer who died after a cancer fight.
Jackie and Shadow’s 2022 chick was called Spirit. So grab your baby (or eagle?) Book and submit your favorite monikers.
