High winds, thunderstorms in Denver, Eastern Plains

According to the National Weather Service, damaging winds and a line of severe thunderstorms will “lash through Colorado” on Tuesday.

North Central Colorado and the metro area will see winds of up to 60 mph during Thursday’s storms, and gusts of 80 mph will be possible with stronger thunderstorms over the Plains, NWS forecasters said in a dangerous weather forecast.

“Get out of the water early in the afternoon as thunderstorms with dangerous gusts will develop.” forecasters said in a warning to boaters planning to take advantage of Thursday’s warm weather.

In the Denver area, temperatures will reach nearly 87 degrees before showers and thunderstorms arrive just before 4 p.m. forecasters said. The strongest storms are expected to hit the metro between 5 and 7 p.m

The severe weather is expected to move east by mid-evening and impact the Eastern Plains between 5 and 9 p.m. according to NWS forecasters.

Although the chance of a tornado is low, small hail showers could occur in the Eastern Plains Thursday afternoon, according to NWS forecasters.
