Honor has announced that it matches Google and Samsung with a new promise from the seven-year-old smartphones software update.
At MWC 2025, Honor revealed his “game-changing obligation” to offer large Android OS updates and security upgrades for his top devices for seven years.
The company confirmed to Tech advisor that this new warranty initially applies to the Honor Magic 7 Pro and will then find its way to the upcoming toams of the magic brand.
In addition to basic support from Android and Magicos, Honor points out that this update of the seven-year update will yield future “advanced AI functions” for upcoming generations of magical telephones.
Welcome to the party, friend
As we have already mentioned, Honor is not the first manufacturer to offer software updates for seven years.
Google was the first to offer this at the end of 2023 with its Pixel 8 range, which also applies to the current Pixel 9 family.
Samsung succeeded this with his own seven-year Update Exempt when the Galaxy S24 series arrived at the beginning of 2024. Again, it has kept itself with this promise with the subsequent Galaxy S25 series.
Honor is the third manufacturer that offers such an extensive guarantee, and we expect that more will fall in line.

The Qualcomm factor
It is remarkable that Qualcomm recently announced that it worked with Google to make it easier for manufacturers to offer such extensive updates.
Starting with the Snapdragon 8 elite and continue in the following five generations of 8 and 7-series chips, Qualcomm manufacturers will support with a maximum of eight years of software and security updates.
It should not be a surprise to note that the Honor Magic 7 Pro is running on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Chip. Hopefully more early flagship phones from 2025 will follow the management of Honor and rebuild this extensive update promise.
