The Food and Drug Administration’s leadership and agenda are about to change, making 2025 a pivotal year for the organization.
With Donald Trump coming to power and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. poised to take on the nation’s top health care role, it appears the agency is on the cusp of a major shakeup. Kennedy has proposed loosening regulations on raw milk, tightening scrutiny of vaccine safety and cracking down on ultra-processed foods and additives.
It’s unclear whether any of that will happen. Kennedy needs Senate confirmation to become secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. Marty Makary, nominee for FDA commissioner, also needs Senate confirmation, and it is not clear how he and Kennedy will work together or what they will prioritize.
