Human Announced on Tuesday That most assets were taken over by HP for $ 116 million. The hardware startup immediately stopped selling its AI pins of $ 499. Humane warned customers who have already bought the PIN that their devices will stop functioning before the end of the month – at 12 o’clock PST on February 28, 2025, according to a Blog post.

After that date, the company says that its AI pins will no longer connect to Humane’s servers. The devices are unable to call, messages, AI questions/answers or cloud access. Humane advises AI -pin owners to immediately transfer their important photos and data to an external device.

Humane says that on 28 February it will also solve its customer support team for the AI pin.

The news puts an end to the short-lived, Buzzy Hardware startup. Humane made a splash in April 2024 by launching his AI -pin, which positioned it as a smartphone replacement. The startup of the Bay Area, founded by former Apple employees Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, raised more than $ 230 million to make the device.

The AI -pin of Humane, however, disappointed many early reviewers and customers, creating a crisis for the company. At one point last summer, Humane’s return for the AI -pin began to surpass his sale, according to the report of The edge. Humane added insult to injury and also told customers to stop using the device’s charging case, with reference to battery fire. In October the company dropped the price of its AI pennen by $ 200.

HP acquires the engineers and product managers from Humane, according to a blog post in which the acquisition is announced. The Humane team will form the basis of a new group within HP called HP IQ, which describes it as an “AI Innovation Lab focused on building an intelligent ecosystem in the products and services of HP for the future of work.”

HP will also acquire some of Humane’s technology, including the Cosmos AI control system. Humane recently showed an advertisement that suggests that the AI control system could work on the entertainment system of a car, a smart speaker, a TV and an Android telephone. This technology can be used to integrate AI into HP’s personal computers and printers.

Humane had tried to be taken over in May 2024 for a much higher price, between $ 750 million and $ 1 billion, according to one Bloomberg report.

Humane did not immediately respond to Techcrunch’s request for comment.
