Israeli fighter jets pounded Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon late Thursday, hitting hundreds of rocket launcher barrels that would be used to fire immediately into Israeli territory, the military said.
It said fighter jets have hit about 100 rocket launchers consisting of about 1,000 barrels since midday.
“The IDF (Israel Defense Forces) will continue to operate to degrade the infrastructure and capabilities of the terrorist organization Hezbollah in order to defend the State of Israel,” the IDF said.
The intense barrage followed attacks earlier this week blamed on Israel by Lebanon and Hezbollah, which blew up Hezbollah radios and pagers, killing 37 people and wounding around 3,000 in Lebanon.
During Thursday’s late operation, Israel launched dozens of bombs in southern Lebanon, three Lebanese security sources said. There were no immediate reports of casualties.
