Jenna Bush Hager assisted Hoda Kotb laugh off a clothing mishap during Today4th of July episode.
Kotb, 59, started fiddling with her red dress behind the anchor desk, and admitted she felt like everything was “hanging out” during Thursday’s episode Today with Hoda and Jenna.
“The bra isn’t working. The outfit doesn’t work. The bra is too big, the straps are too small. I can not do it. When you wear a dress, you know you’re not supposed to wear it,” Kotb said.
As her breakdown took place in front of millions of viewers, Kotb explained her wardrobe situation in very relatable terms.
“You know when you’re like, ‘Everything’s hanging out. It’s not right.’ But you know what, I just decided I’m going to do it,” she continued. “Have you ever been to a party and said, ‘It’s fine.’ And then you’re pulling, pushing and cramming the entire party? It is not good.”
Bush Hager, 42, understood where her cohost was coming from and sympathized with the fact that she had “too much cleavage” that she didn’t “like,” which Kotb agreed: “I don’t want it.” I don’t want it, it’s too much.”
When Kotb got nervous about possibly “falling out” of her dress, Bush Hager joked that she should just take her bra off completely.
“Will you ever just free your breasts?” Bush Hager asked Kotb, who insisted it was a hard no.
Bush Hager expanded on the topic, continuing, “Free your breasts, Hoda. It’s time… At this point in your life, as you approach 60, loosen your breasts. Let’s free them. Would you like me to take off your bra for you?’
Kotb firmly assured Bush Hager that the answer would always be no, even when her cohost said she could unhook her bra “very quickly and slip through her dress.”
Bush Hager joined Today in 2009, officially acquired from Kathie Lee Gifford during the fourth hour after her retirement in 2019.
Bush Hager’s comments about Kotb’s bra probably didn’t surprise her cohost, as Kotb said she noticed Bush Hager’s authenticity during their first meeting. In April, the ladies reflected on their first impressions of each other during their “Spilling The E-Tea” segment.
“I thought you were super excited. You were a little scared, which I liked,” Kotb recalled. “But what I remember most about you that day (and every day after) is that you were 100 percent yourself. You are 100 percent yourself on the first day and you are 100 percent yourself times five years.”
