John Oliver Clowns JD Vance for Giving 'Worst Possible Answer' to a 'Pretty Easy Question'

John Oliver on Sunday mocked Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) for the way he responded to a Michigan reporter’s cheerful question at a campaign event.

The “Last Week Tonight” host said Donald Trump’s running mate “still disappoints” before throwing out a clip of what he described as the “worst possible answer” to a “pretty easy question.”

“You have been criticized for being a little too serious, sometimes a little angry. What makes you laugh? What makes you happy?” Fox 2 Detroit’s Charlie Langton asked Wednesday.

“Well, I smile at a lot of things, including fake questions from the media, man,” Vance replied as he started laughing.

He continued, “I mean, look, I think if you look, if you look at a full speech that I give, I’m actually having a good time here and I’m enjoying this. But look, sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. And right now, I am angry about what Kamala Harris has done to this country and America’s southern border.”

Oliver himself had a question for Vance after seeing the clip.

“Is he okay?” Oliver asked.

“He was just asked what makes you laugh, a question to which there is almost no wrong answer. You can say: my kids, dogs that sleep strangely, a hot bath, dogs that sleep strangely, Cheez-It, which is also the name of this dog that sleeps strangely.”

Oliver listed “good answers” Vance could have given the reporter before referring to his position on border security as an answer that was “just wrong.”

The host later played a clip of Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, featuring him and his daughter Hope Walz during a catapult ride last year at the state fair.

Oliver said you clearly don’t have to ask Walz what “makes him laugh” as he pointed to photos of the Minnesota governor holding a piglet and being hugged by children after he signed a law guaranteeing free school meals for children in his state.

″[And there’s] him here, seemingly remembering that he’s not JD Fucking Vance,” Oliver said as he showed a photo of Walz flashing a smile.
