Getty Images (2)John Owen Lowe dismissed the assumption that he was dating Lucy Hale after they were photographed spending time together.
During the Sunday, July 28 episode of Watch what happens live with Andy CohenLowe, 29, was asked by a fan if the rumors that he was dating Hale, 35, were true.
“I think you can go to Erewhon with someone and be photographed, and then things blow out of proportion,” Lowe clarified. “That’s all I’ll say.”
Earlier this month, we spotted Lowe and Hale grabbing a bite to eat in Los Angeles. Eagle-eyed fans then noticed Hale showing support after Lowe — Rob Lowe’s son — celebrated his six-year sobriety anniversary.
Several of Hollywood’s biggest stars have opened up about their sobriety journeys over the years. “Six years ago today I took my last sip of alcohol. If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, please reach out. Ask for help. I did and it changed my life,” John Owen wrote in an Instagram post in April, to which Hale replied: “This is amazing. You are great. Bright and shiny human ❤.”
Hale has been candid about her own sobriety journey. In February 2023, Hale revealed that she was celebrating one year of sobriety after a battle with addiction.

“The first time I ever drank alcohol, I was probably twelve or thirteen. I remember my very first experience with alcohol was the same as when it ended. I blacked out when I was 12 years old. I don’t remember what happened. I threw up. I got really sick and I remember being so distraught when I realized what had happened,” Hale said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in November 2023. “I remember the shame after every drinking experience, because my drinking never was normal. It was very clear that I was drinking to escape from something, even at a young age.”
Hale didn’t realize she “had a problem” until she was in her 20s. “I went to rehab when I was 23. I don’t think anyone is ready for that [my] show [Pretty Little Liars] knew. And it was my choice too,” she recalls. “That was a crucial moment in my life. [But] I wasn’t ready to stop drinking, so I didn’t get sober until I was 32.”

GAC/MEGAThe COVID pandemic played a huge role in Hale’s journey. “Without COVID, I might not have gotten sober — or committed to it,” she said of the forced quarantine, which resulted in her no longer being in social situations that led to heavy drinking.

“I haven’t really had any rules with dating,” she explained Rachel Bilson‘s podcast ‘Broad Ideas’ in January 2023. ‘I dated until I was 52 – [from] 27 to 52. I’m 33 and I feel like I’ll probably end up in a relationship with someone my age or older just because of the non-negotiables. I have a feeling a lot of people in that older age range will meet that.
Hale added: “I was hooked on that chase for a while. But that’s tiring and we’ve moved past that. No games. I would rather not be around people or sit in silence. Let’s talk about the real stuff. I’ll immediately say, ‘Where do you think you’ll go when you die?’ I just want to get to that place right away.”
