The Yankees will go without next season Juan Sotobut fear not, New York fans… Johnny Damon tells TMZ Sports they might just be better without the star slugger!!
We spoke with the 51-year-old former Pinstripes outfielder on Thursday — just hours after the Mets introduced Soto to their fan base — and he said flat out that his former team could get out of this situation just fine.
His reasoning? Damon says the Yankees can now spend the $750 million they earmarked for Soto on some key pieces that could make them even more formidable in 2025.
“The Yankees could have dodged a bullet here,” the two-time World Series champion said. “This could be huge.”
Of course, the Yanks have already spent big after signing Soto’s Mets… inking former Braves pitcher Max Fried to a $218 million deal.
And Damon says he fully expects the team to continue writing checks… maybe even to the Mets’ coveted free agent. Pete Alonso.
“I think in the end,” Damon said, “you’ll have a better team.”
Don’t worry, Mets fans… Damon says he still expects big things from him in Queens – though he warns New York fans that his numbers could drop because of his new league and ballpark.

Damon will no doubt be keeping a close eye on it all next year… most likely while enjoying a few of his A GAME drinks.
