UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is taking advantage of his ongoing legal battle… and entering a not guilty plea to the two misdemeanor charges he faces in connection with a drug test gone wrong earlier this year.
Jones — who appeared virtually in court in New Mexico — was charged earlier this week with assault and interference with communications … after a test agent claimed he made threats and took their cellphones when they showed up unannounced at his Albuquerque home. March.
As we previously reported, two drug testing agents from the UFC’s anti-doping partners – Drug Free Sport International – went to Jones’ pad to collect a plasm sample… but in a police report, one of the agents told authorities Jon became irritated when he didn’t could provide a urine sample.
The officer — identified as Crystal Martinez – told Albuquerque police she was “terrified” after Jones got in her face and “was afraid Jones was going to hit her.”
The woman claimed Jones was upset about how early they arrived… and at one point in the interaction he reportedly said, “You know what happens to people who come to my house? They end up dead.”
Jones has denied the allegationssaying in a now-deleted Instagram post that while he was frustrated, nothing threatening was said.
“I want to clarify that there is a video of both drug testers leaving my house after the testing session, where we exchanged a high five and a hug. Although I was frustrated by the unprofessional behavior and used profanity in frustration, it ended friendly and amicable, nothing threatening at all.”
Jones will be a free man awaiting trial… where a judge will grant his attorney’s request during Wednesday’s court hearing.
