Maura Tierney joins the cast of “Law & Order” for season 24.
While specific character details are not yet available, Tierney will play a lieutenant in the season, which premieres October 3 on NBC.
One of Tierney’s best-known projects is “The Affair,” the Showtime drama in which she played Helen Solloway in all five seasons from 2014 to 2019, which earned her a Golden Globe. Like “Law & Order,” her other major TV roles were on NBC: “NewsRadio,” the ’90s sitcom in which she played Lisa Miller for five seasons, and “ER,” the medical drama in which she starred as Abby Lockhart. in seasons 6 through 15.
In film, Tierney is best known for “Primal Fear” (1996) opposite Richard Gere and Edward Norton, “Liar Liar” (1997) opposite Jim Carrey and “Primary Colors” (1998) opposite John Travolta and Emma Thompson.
More recently, Tierney returned as Fiona McKee in Showtime’s 2021 Bryan Cranston-led legal drama “Your Honor” and played Doris Von Erich in A24’s 2023 film “The Iron Claw.” In the Amazon Prime Video series “American Rust,” which released its second season in March, she stars as Grace Poe, and she can currently be seen as Cathy, mother of Kate (Daisy Edgar-Jones).
