Linda Cardellini joins Jason Bateman and David Harbor in the HBO series

Linda Cardellini has been cast in the lead role opposite Jason Bateman and David Harbor in the upcoming HBO dark comedy limited series “DTF St. Louis.” Variety has learned.

HBO gave the series a seven-episode order in November. It was originally announced to be in development in 2022, with Harbor and Pedro Pascal attached to star and executive produce. It was originally inspired by the James Lasdun New Yorker article “My Dentist’s Murder Trial: Adultery, False Identities, and a Lethal Sedation.” However, the creative direction of the series has evolved over time and is now based on a completely original idea with no connection to the original article and with Pascal no longer involved.

The official logline now states that the show is “about a love triangle between three adults who experience a middle-aged malaise that leads to one of them dying.” Cardellini will play Carol.

Cardellini has been nominated three times for an Emmy: one for “Mad Men” and two for “Dead to Me.” Her other TV roles include “Freaks and Geeks,” “ER,” and “Bloodline.” She is currently lending her voice to the DC animated series “Creature Commandos” and will next be seen in the Netflix dark comedy “No Good Deed,” where she reunites with “Dead to Me” creator Liz Feldman. In film, Cardellini is known for her role in the live-action franchise ‘Scooby-Doo’, as well as films such as ‘Brokeback Mountain’, ‘The Founder’ and for playing Laura Barton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She can currently be seen in the Hulu film “Nutcrackers” opposite Ben Stiller and just completed “Way of the Warrior Kid” for Apple.

She is repped by CAA, Shelter PR and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Steven Conrad serves as writer, showrunner, executive producer and director. Both Harbor and Bateman will executive produce, with Bateman doing so under his Aggregate Films banner. Other executive producers include: Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch for Escape Artists; Molly Allen; Bruce Terris; Michael Costigan for Total Films; Kristina Wenson for Bravo Axolotl; and MGM Television.
