Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez liked a social media post linking him with a move to fellow Champions League club AC Milan. Nunez, who has struggled to secure regular playing time under new manager Arne Slot, has been linked with a possible move to the Italian giants in January.
The Uruguayan forward joined the Reds in 2022 following his record £85m move from Benfica. However, he does not meet the high expectations and is currently behind Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz in Slot’s pecking order.
AC Milan TMN previously reported that the club had begun talks with Liverpool over a half-season loan deal, which would include a commitment to buy for £37.4 million in the summer. This speculation is sure to gain even more attention after Nunez liked an Instagram story showing him in an AC Milan shirt.
While Milan remains strongly linked to Darwin Nunez, a contrasting report from the Mails Simon Jones suggests that Liverpool have not received any communication from the Italian club regarding a possible transfer.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot himself has expressed his confidence in the attacker’s ability to influence games.
“For me he has an impact. If you just look at goals, he hasn’t scored the number of goals he wants to score, or we want a number nine to score, but he has had an impact on his work rate. He is part of a team that scores a lot of goals and wins a lot,” he said (via BBC)
Liverpool are in good form and currently top the Premier League table. They are six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal, who have played one game more than the Reds.
Liverpool legend shares his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s possible departure
Although Nunez has been linked with a move, multiple reports suggest that Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold could leave for Real Madrid next summer. The full-back’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning he can start negotiations with other clubs this month.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher stressed in a post on social media platform X that the club and its players must remain focused on winning the Premier League, where they currently have a commanding lead.
“The most important thing for @LFC in 2025 is winning the #PremierLeague. No one’s contract or future should get in the way of that! I love Trent as a boy and as a player but his team would have told Real Madrid to bid and also would have known LFC would turn it down. It’s to cover themselves if he leaves for free. Again it’s something the club/fans don’t need with a big game coming up,” he tweeted.
The Reds are gearing up for a challenging series of games this month, starting with a crucial match against Manchester United at Anfield on January 5. They will then travel to London to take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-finals on January 8.
