Luigi Mangione‘s family seems to be distancing themselves from the Brian Thompson murder investigation… in which the Ivy League graduate is the prime suspect.
Lawyer David B. Irwinwho advised the Mangione family after Luigi’s arrest, tells TMZ that the suspected shooter’s loved ones are in the dark about the case and say they don’t “know all the facts.”
In fact, the lawyer tells us that the family only knows what they “read in the papers”… making it clear that they are not involved in Luigi’s legal troubles.
They had a short, albeit sweet, message for Luigi…whom the lawyer says the family “loves.”
He adds… “We wish him the best.”
The Mangione family’s show of support comes as Luigi is charged with murder and possession of a weapon in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.
As TMZ previously reported, Luigi was first named as an interested party earlier this week after Thompson was shot outside a downtown Manhattan hotel on December 4.
Luigi was picked up in a Altoona, PA McDonald’s after a customer spotted Luigi and recognized him in widely shared suspect photos… prompting an employee to call authorities.
From there, Luigi was arrested on firearms and forgery charges in Pennsylvania, before being indicted for second-degree murder by the Manhattan district attorney
He is currently fight extradition to NYC…with his lawyer who previously shared Luigi’s plans to plead not guilty.
But given the Mangiones’ brief reaction to the news, we’d be shocked to see them in the front row at his upcoming trial.
