It’s another rivalry match between Manchester United and Liverpool, but things have changed a little ahead of their meeting on Sunday. It will be new Liverpool manager Arne Slot’s biggest test of the young season so far, but his Reds will also test Manchester United’s new-look defence. Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt will give the team a much-needed boost, but they also need more minutes to strengthen their partnership. The match could come too soon for Manuel Ugarte to make his debut after signing from PSG on deadline day.

Storylines
Manchester United: After the defeat to Brighton, Erik ten Hag will be looking for a bounce-back result, but he will also have to replace Mason Mount in the XI. The England midfielder will miss out with a hamstring injury, which could see Alejandro Garnacho start his first game of the season. Liverpool have allowed counter-attacking opportunities this season, so the Argentine’s ability to beat teams over the top will be important.
Liverpool: The Reds themselves signed Federico Chiesa. This move, which comes from Juventus, will be a chance for the Italian to return to the form that cemented him as a star for years. Liverpool knows Serie A wingers quite well. Mohamed Salah is making a similar leap and their depth will ensure Chiesa gets the time he needs to adapt. Line-up-wise, things are stable under Slot, so not many changes should be expected in the XI.
Prediction
Manchester United will give Liverpool their money’s worth, but their defense will let them down again as they have to settle for a draw. Choose: Manchester United 1, Liverpool 1
