Editor’s note: This year was a big one for Marc Jacobs, who celebrated his 40th anniversary in fashion and became the first guest editor of American Fashion. We close 2024 with an archive look at the designer’s career. This Spring 1995 collection, presented in New York on October 29, 1994, has been digitized as part of Vogue Runway’s ongoing efforts to document the history of fashion shows.
Writing about the “dial-a-decade” spring 1995 season, Fashion reported that “Marc Jacobs revisited the sophisticated, sexy Saint Laurent woman of the ’70s.” There certainly was that, and much more. Included in the mix were leis and Mickey Mouse ears, anchor-adorned nautical looks and satin western dresses available to order from Nashville’s own Manuel. Kate Moss, with a crown of flowers in her hair, and Kristen McMenamy, who wore a black witch hat and cape, closed the show with gold lamé looks with a ’30s flair. Models carried balloons in what looked like a fancy dress party.
