Dana Carvey’s Church Lady character opened “Saturday Night Live” with her talk show guests, including a parade of “sinners” representing the “most satanic year in history”: Sarah Sherman as Matt Gaetz, David Spade as Hunter Biden and Marcello Hernandez as baseball free agent Juan Soto.
“Are you okay, Matt? You look a little surprised to be here,” Carvey says.
“No, this is just how my face is,” Gaetz’s Sherman replies.
“Matt, let’s see if I’m clear on this. You were involved in some minor sexual peccadilloes? They wrote a whole report about it, but somehow we never got to see it, right? Isn’t that useful?”, says the Church Woman.
“For me, yes,” Gaetz answers.
“You better repent Matt. There are still 17 days until Christmas,” says the Church Lady.
“You had me at 17!” says Gaetz.
The Church Lady was then visited by David Spade as Hunter Biden, who said: “Hello Church Lady! I haven’t been here in a while. I kept a bit of a low profile.”
“That’s okay, at least you haven’t done a podcast,” says the Church Lady. (Spade and Carvey co-host the podcast “Fly on the Wall.”)
“Some people are not very happy with your forgiveness,” says the Church Lady. “Well, they picked me just because of who I am,” Spade said. “Just like Trump, they went after me because of my last name and all the illegal things I did.”
“Well, isn’t that special!” exclaims the Church Lady.
After a visit from baseball player Soto, Carvey and the Church Chat singers left the stage singing, “Satan had a good year!”
“Gladiator 2” star Paul Mescal hosts the eighth episode of the venerable sketch show’s 50th season, with musical guest Shaboozey.
