Mel Gibson toured the ash pile that was once his California home… but he seemed far more concerned with making sure first responders knew how much he appreciated their efforts.
Mel was photographed for the first time on Wednesday returning to his Malibu property, where he shook hands with firefighters and inspected the damage left behind by the deadly Palisades fire.
While not all residents have been able to return to their homes, it appears Mel got a ride from the fire department while he was filming an interview with a NewsNation correspondent.

BACKGROUND
Although Mel revealed that he’s just glad his family is safe… there was at least one souvenir he wanted to take with him before leaving the property… which appeared to be an end table.
He said last week Joe Rogan he felt “uneasy because I knew my neighborhood was on fire. He says the Santa Ana winds were just starting to pick up on Tuesday when he left for Texas. MG said, “You could put it in an urn “…referring to what’s left of his house.

Mel, who lived in the house for about 15 years, says he’s lost a lot of “cool stuff” but knows he can replace it all. He says he plans to clean up the site and rebuild.
Mel is part of a long list of celebrities who have lost their homes. That list also includes Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Eugene Levy, Odometer, Johannes Goedman, Anna Faris, Adam Brody And Leighton Master, Spencer Pratt And Heidi Montag, Candy spelling And Jeff Bridges.
Of course, the vast majority of Southern California’s thousands of displaced people are not rich or famous.
