Melania Trump made a statement on Wednesday evening about her husband Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 election.
“The majority of Americans have entrusted us with this important responsibility,” she wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “We will protect the heart of our republic: freedom.”
“I expect that the citizens of our nation will once again unite in their commitment to each other and rise above ideology for the sake of individual freedom, economic prosperity and security,” she continued. “American energy, skill and initiative will bring our best minds together to advance our nation forever.”
The former first lady barely campaigned with her husband and publicly joined him only a handful of times in the past year.
Towards the end of the race, however, she did a series of media interviews to promote her new book, in which she claimed to be a supporter of abortion rights – despite being married to the man. who claims responsibility for eliminating federal abortion protections. In one such appearance on Fox News last week, she insisted that her husband is “not Hitler.”
Trump’s own former chief of staff, John Kelly, recently warned that his former boss would rule like a dictator and that Trump had said positive things about Adolf Hitler when they worked together.
Despite warnings from dozens of people who worked in the first Republican administration, health care professionals, historians and authoritarianism experts, economistsabortion rights advocates and many others, Trump was resoundingly elected this week to return to the White House.
As first lady, Melania Trump was in favor a “Be Best” initiative who campaigned for the well-being of young people and tried to combat cyberbullying, which many found ironic given her collaboration a notorious bully.
