Just in time for the holidays, the Major League Soccer schedule for the 2025 season has been announced. The 30th season for the league also brings their 30th team in San Diego FC, as all teams will be in action during the opening weekend on February 22-23. With the shift from 29 to 30 teams, each team no longer has to have a planned week off every match day.
San Diego begins play by visiting reigning MLS Cup champions Los Angeles Galaxy, while Lionel Messi and Inter Miami will host New York City FC at Chase Stadium. There will be nods to MLS originals as part of the 30th season celebration, such as the San Jose Earthquakes hosting DC United on April 6 in a rematch of the league’s first match. DC United will also take on the LA Galaxy on July 12 in a rematch of the first MLS Cup. The date for the 2025 MLS Cup will be announced at a later date.

The competition will also be paused for the 2025 Gold Cup, a tournament that typically features many MLS players.

Dates to know
May 10: The New York Red Bulls will host the Galaxy in an MLS Cup rematch. The Galaxy prevailed for their record sixth title, but this will be an opportunity for the Red Bulls and newcomer Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to announce their intention to take the title back.
May 14: The first match of the MLS rivalry week, which runs until May 18, will take place on May 14. St. Louis City SC will host Sporting Kansas City, Orlando City will go to Inter Miami and Los Angeles FC will take on the Galaxy at El Trafico.
July 23: The MLS All-Star game heads to Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. With the Skills Challenge on July 22, the opponent has yet to be announced.
July 29 – August 31: The Leagues Cup starts after the all-star break. Details are yet to come on who will participate, but as with the Concacaf Champions Cup, teams will play for MLS or Liga MX during the week without breaks during the tournament.
October 18: MLS Decision Day will take place. Eastern Conference games begin at 6:00 PM ET with Western Conference games following at 9:00 PM ET.
