Historical romance series are having a moment right now. Bridgerton season 3 stormed to the most-watched spot on Netflix after its debut in the spring, and Prime Video now has a similar show that will appeal to fans of the genre.
My Lady Jane is a reimagined, feminist tale of the Tudor Nine Day Queen, Lady Jane Gray. The story is based on the book by Cynthia Hand, Brodie Ashton and Jodi Meadow.
The series is filled with an all-star British cast, steamy scenes, nail-biting battles, hilarious stories and a modernized take on the period – all laced with a touch of fantasy, as the world is filled with shapeshifters.
Critical acclaim and word of mouth have propelled the series to the second most-watched spot on Prime Video, just behind core series The Boys. If you’ve finished reading Jane and Guildford’s story and want to know if there’s more to come, we’ve got everything you need to know.

Will My Lady Jane return for season 2?
Prime Video has not yet confirmed whether My Lady Jane will return for a second season. However, the showrunner is certainly looking forward to it.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer Gemma Burgess provided the following quote:
If we’re lucky enough to get a season 2, we’ll explore them all as we grow up and move on and figure out how to survive in the world where Jane is free, but the kingdom is not. Because Mary is still on the throne. There is still a lot of work to do before everything is right.
Given the success of the series, a second season would not be a surprise. Additionally, the final episode made a point of mentioning all the remaining plot threads, such as Mary’s terrifying reign and the numerous secret relationships.
There’s also a chance that Amazon will follow the books’ trajectory, but if that happens we’ll get a whole new setting and almost certainly a new cast. More about that later.

When could My Lady Jane season 2 be released?
Without confirmation of a second season of My Lady Jane, it’s hard to predict when it will come out.
Filming for the first series began in 2022, and the series finally released on Prime Video on June 27, 2024. So if the production time is the same for a hypothetical season 2, then we probably won’t see season 2 of My Lady Jane until then. Not until 2026 at the earliest.
If Prime Video announces more about the future of the show, we will update this article.
Who could return for season 2 of My Lady Jane?
If My Lady Jane continues to be set in Tudor times, we would expect the following cast members to return:
- Emily Bader as Lady Jane Grey
- Edward Bluemel as Lord Guildford Dudley
- Jordan Peters as King Edward VI
- Anna Chancellor as Lady Frances Gray
- Rob Brydon as Lord Dudley
- Dominic Cooper as Lord Seymour
- Kate O’Flynn as Queen Mary

- Isabella Brownson as Lady Katherine Gray
- Robyn Betteridge as Margaret Gray
- Henry Ashton as Lord Stan Dudley
- Oliver Chris as narrator
- Abbie Hern as Bess
- Joe Klocek as Fitz

Given her recent interviews, we would also expect Gemma Burgess to return as showrunner.

What could the plot of My Lady Jane season 2 be about?
The end of season 2 showed that Jane and Guildford had escaped to the countryside after narrowly avoiding execution by Queen Mary. After confessing their love for each other, Guildford willingly changed form and carried Jane in horse form on his back to safety.
The final scene shows the couple kissing in the morning sun. This confirms that the Lord’s werewolf curse has been broken and that he is now in control of his Ethical nature, instead of turning away every time dawn breaks.
He suggests that they travel the world. However, Jane recognizes that as long as Mary is still on the throne, she is still needed in England. Guildford vows to stay by her side.
There are plot points from the book that have not yet been explored. For example, Entertainment Weekly points out that in the original story, Jane discovers she is an Ethian, in the form of a ferret.

Executive producer Meredith Glynn has given a few ideas about what she would like to see in a follow-up season, telling the Express:
“There are people in season one who, without spoiling, if you know Tudor history, they go on to live big, bad lives. And there are also characters like Katherine Gray (Isabella Brownson) who have led a very tragic life. And it would be great to be able to retell the story of a tragic character. Frances Gray subsequently served Mary’s court, even though Mary had murdered her daughter. So there are a lot of different stories that would be really fun to tell further.
The final montage also revealed that Bess (the future Queen Elizabeth I in real life) is an Eithian fox, the continuation of Lady Frances and Stan Dudley’s affair, Lady Katherine Gray and William Seymour’s secret marriage, and King Edward VI and Fitz about sleeping with someone else.
Will season 2 adapt the next book in the My Lady Jane series?
The next book in the YA novel series is My Plain Jane, and instead follows a different character: Jane Eyre. Jane and Guildford are not in the next book at all.
So if Prime Video were to follow the source material, we’d be getting a brand new cast. This seems unlikely, as from the interviews we’ve seen so far the crew is keen to keep the original story going.
