New Year's snow in the mountains makes for slippery roads

Colorado’s mountains are forecast to welcome New Year’s Day with a dusting of snow.

Light snow is expected to fall Wednesday afternoon and evening and become heavier overnight and Thursday morning National Weather Service in Boulder.

Forecasters warned that blowing snow, poor visibility and slippery roads could make for dangerous travel conditions in the mountains and warned commuters to adjust their travel plans accordingly, either leaving earlier on Wednesday or staying until drier Friday conditions.

The Plains can expect a band or two of light snow, NWS Boulder said.

Light snow that fell overnight in the Denver suburbs and around Castle Rock could leave roads slick with icy conditions, forecasters say. Be aware of icy conditions while out and about, NWS Boulder said.

New Year’s Day in Denver is expected to be mostly sunny with a high near 43 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

Clear, sunny days are forecast in the city through Saturday night, when rain and snow are likely overnight and into Sunday.
