Novak Djokovic made some honest comments about the potential of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to break his records. Alcaraz, who is currently ranked No. 3 in the ATP Rankings, and Sinner, who holds the top spot, have been making waves in the tennis world lately.
Djokovic has etched his name in tennis history with a staggering 24 Grand Slam titles, including ten Australian Opens, three French Opens, seven Wimbledons and four US Opens, making him the most successful male player of all time. In the 2024 season, he added the final piece to his legacy by securing his long-awaited Olympic gold medal in Paris.
Djokovic has always embraced the new generation of players with open arms, including Grigor Dimitrov, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem. And of course he continues to support the rise of Alcaraz and Sinner.
In an interview with GQ Sports On Thursday, January 9, the Serbian tennis star casually noted that while his records may seem unbreakable to some, he believes that both Alcaraz and Sinner could be the ones to step into his shoes in the future.
‘It’s too early. But you know, people say my records will never be broken. I doubt that. I mean, Carlos could already be next. Even Jannik,” Djokovic said.
He also emphasized that if Sinner and Alcaraz prioritize their fitness and take care of their bodies, they can achieve long-term success.
“If they take care of the body, if they do things the right way, focus on longevity, focus on the long term, then they can do it,” he added.
At just 21 years old, the Spaniard has already won four Grand Slam titles: two at Wimbledon, one at the US Open and one at the French Open. Reflecting on this remarkable achievement, Djokovic noted:
“Carlos did something at such a young age that no one in history has done. So the opportunities lie with him. He’s going to complete his [career] Strike very quickly.”
Novak Djokovic could face Carlos Alcaraz in QF and Jannik Sinner in the final of the Australian Open 2025

Novak Djokovic kicks off his campaign against Nishesh Basavareddy at the Australian Open on Sunday, January 12. The duo have never met before on the ATP Tour, so it will be an interesting match.
If Djokovic wins, he will meet Pavel Kotov in the second round, followed by a possible third-round meeting with Reilly Opelka or Tomas Machac. Grigor Dimitrov or Jiri Lehecka await him in the fourth round.
If the Serbian progresses to the quarter-finals, he could face his toughest test yet in a highly anticipated showdown with Carlos Alcaraz. Alternatively, he could face Sebastian Korda or 2024 US Open semi-finalist Jack Draper.
In the semi-finals, the 24-time Grand Slam champion could face formidable opponents such as Alexander Zverev, Casper Ruud or Tommy Paul. Should he reach the final, he could face world number 1 Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz or Alex de Minaur.
