Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) attacked an unnamed senior Democratic lawmaker in the House for claiming that many in the party have “resigned” because Donald Trump won the election.
“If you are a ‘senior Democrat’ who feels this way, you should absolutely retire and make room for real leadership that refuses to bow to fascism,” she wrote on X. “This type of leadership is functionally useless to the American people. Retire.”
One person, identified as a “senior House Democrat,” told the website: “We are all resigned to a second Trump presidency.”
Trump will accept the Republican nomination for president this week at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. The Democratic Party will hold its convention in Chicago next month.
