Officer, man injured in Fort Collins police shooting near City Park

A man and a Fort Collins police officer were injured in a shooting near City Park and Grandview Cemetery on Sunday afternoon, according to Fort Collins police.

Police responded to a single-vehicle rollover near West Mountain Avenue and South Bryan Avenue around 12:41 p.m., where they found the driver exiting the vehicle with a gun. Police officials reported this in a press release.

The driver “exchanged gunfire with officers” and ran toward the cemetery. Police followed him and “more gunfire occurred,” Fort Collins officials said Sunday.

SWAT officers in an armored vehicle approached the man, who was injured, arrested him and provided medical aid. He was taken to a hospital, but his status was not immediately available.

The injured officer was also taken to a hospital and is expected to recover, the department said.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.
