Lyles, 27, announced via Instagram on Sunday, Oct. 13 that he proposed to Bromfield, 26, after two years of dating. “To My Future Wife I Will Love You Forever 💍,” he captioned a video of the romantic milestone.
The clip showed the couple walking hand-in-hand as they explored an elaborate setup with petals, candles and a heart-shaped sign that read “Will you marry me?” Lyles then got down on one knee while wearing a sleek black suit with gold accents. Bromfield, who wore a sparkling silver dress, kissed her husband-to-be after he said yes.
Bromveld shared a separate video of her celebrating with her friends and showing off her new ring. “ENGAGED💍🥺,” she gushed.
The Olympic athletes first connected on social media in 2017 and formed a friendship before their relationship turned romantic. The pair became Instagram official in December 2022 and have continued to support each other both on and off the court. (Bromfield previously earned a bronze medal representing Jamaica at the Tokyo Olympics, while Lyles won a gold and bronze medal for Team USA at the Paris Olympics this summer.)
“We have that mental space to be able to share with each other and feed each other all the time,” Lyles shared exclusively We weekly in July while discussing training with his now fiancée ahead of the Paris Games.
He added: “Knowing that someone could be here at any time, I need them and always giving words of encouragement is very important. It’s really nice to have.”
After the match in France, Lyles spoke out against the hateful comments directed at Bromfield during the Games. “I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of my girlfriend and now giving her the flowers she deserves 💐. She has been through so much in her life that I could never imagine fighting through it,” he wrote via Instagram in August. “In addition, she is a survivor, two-time Olympian, Olympic medalist, medalist at multiple world championships and has represented Jamaica on the world stage since she was 8 years old.”
Lyles then praised Bromfield for “the way she has dealt with the sheer disrespect and hatred towards her from her own country,” adding, “This woman has been attacked by people who have never met her, her name before heard, never seen her smile. , or has heard what she believes in. But she continues to move forward knowing that God will always make a way. That’s why God continues to bless her!”
In the comments section, Bromfield thanked her partner for “always being supportive.” [me] long before we even started dating.
Earlier this year, the couple opened up about what initially drew them together. “When we became friends, I told him I liked him because [his] brutal honesty,” Bromfield said on the “Inside Track” podcast in March, referring to her romance with Lyles as her “best relationship ever.”
Bromfield’s appreciation for his authentic personality was a big green flag for Lyles. “I already liked you, but that’s a firm answer of, ‘Okay, we’re going to grow old together, and it’s going to be forever, and it’s going to be constant,'” he said. “When you hear things like that, you say, ‘Yes, I would like a woman like that to raise my children.’”
