The 2024 Olympic Games will take place from Friday, July 26 to Sunday, August 11, with a total of more than two weeks of competition.
What should I know about the opening ceremony?
For the first time in the history of the Olympic Games, the opening ceremony took place outside a stadium. Instead, activities were ramped up along the River Seine, with boats transporting each national delegation of athletes.

The ceremony also featured a variety of entertainment, including a ballet solo by Guillaume Diop, a thrash set by rock band Gojira and theater performances by Lady Gaga, Aya Nakamura and Céline Dion, all dressed by Dior.
The Opening Ceremony aired live on NBC and Peacock from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM ET on Friday, July 26. A primetime presentation of the ceremony also aired at 7:30 PM ET.

This year the Olympics introduced a breakdancing competition, in which sixteen men and sixteen women had to improvise to music they had not previously selected. In addition, surfing and skateboarding will be part of the Games again this year, after being introduced during the Games 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo; and men will be included in the artistic swimming category for the first time.
