The Denver Fire Department responded to a fire at the Windsor Gardens apartments near East Alameda Avenue and South Clinton Street on Friday evening.
One person was rescued from a first-floor unit where the fire is believed to have started and taken to a local hospital, said Ahmid Nunn, spokesman for the Denver Fire Department. Nunn did not know at the time the extent of the victim’s injuries.
As of 6:45 p.m., firefighters were checking for hot spots and were still trying to get the fire under control.
Several residents in the apartment community who are 55 and older are being treated for smoke inhalation, Nunn said.
Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke in a first-floor unit.
