While parent company Oppo has a few foldables under its prime, OnePlus waited until 2023 with its first attempt.
The OnePlus Open (pictured) was a convincing debut, combining high-quality hardware with some truly impressive software features. But there’s still room for improvement in a few key areas, including price.
The OnePlus Open 2 will be one of the most formidable challengers to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with rumors of a huge battery and the advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
As OnePlus builds on the success of its predecessor, this upcoming foldable phone could not only overtake but possibly even surpass many other flagships, making it a serious contender among the best foldable phones.
So when can we expect it and what exactly will the OnePlus Open 2 offer? Here’s everything we know at this stage.
When will the OnePlus Open 2 be released?
At the moment, there’s no official information on the launch of the Open 2, or even if OnePlus is working on a new model. But it would be a surprise if the company gave up after just one generation.
Although the global launch of the first OnePlus Open took place on October 19, 2023, it appears that OnePlus will settle into a biannual update cycle.

GSMArena reports that Oppo is gearing up to launch the Find N5 soon, although it didn’t appear with the Find X8 as expected. The phone will be a successor to the Find N3, skipping the number ‘4’ (apparently due to tetraphobia).
This matches a claim from a Chinese leaker, Digital Chat Station, that the Find N5 will arrive in late March 2024.
If past trends continue, the Find N5 could launch internationally as the OnePlus Open 2, which could also arrive the first quarter of 2025.
Digital Chat Station also previously claimed that OnePlus plans to launch the Open 2 in early 2025. This agrees with what another leaker, Chun Baisaid it too.
How much will the OnePlus Open 2 cost?
While we currently don’t have any concrete information on the price of the OnePlus Fold 2, we expect the price to remain competitive.

The One Plus Open costs £1,599/$1,699, making it more affordable than main rivals in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (from £1,799/$1,899) and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (from £1,749/$1,799).
Hopefully OnePlus will make the Open 2 even more affordable, but that may not be the case, especially if there are significant upgrades.
What specifications and features will the OnePlus Open 2 have?
Design
According to Digital Chat Station (via GizmoChina), the Oppo Find N5, and therefore Open 2, has a similar design to its predecessor, the Find N3, with a large, round camera module on the back.
While specific screen size measurements haven’t been revealed, the screen is reportedly larger than the previous generation.
Digital Chat Station claims that while the phone will have an IPX8 water resistance rating, Oppo is also aiming to keep the device slimmer than the Find N3 thanks to a custom slim USB-C port.
Additionally, the device is said to have an ‘anti-fall body structure’, an intriguing detail revealed through translation.
Display
The same source also claims that the Oppo Find N5’s internal display will support an impressive 2K+ resolution, significantly improving display quality.
This high-resolution display is expected to improve the viewing experience for users, especially with the larger screen size of this new model.
Performance
The OnePlus Open is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This was the latest chipset at the time of launch, but was quickly replaced by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Assuming the Open 2 is released before the end of 2024, it will likely be powered by the 8 Gen 3. However, with a 2025 release now more likely, we’d rather expect the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

Digital Chat Station feels the same way as they report that the Oppo Find N5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s latest chipset.
The current model is only available in one configuration (16GB/512GB) and we don’t expect this to change with the release of the Open 2, especially as it offers more RAM and storage than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Folding , for a lower price.
However, it would have been nice to see more storage options, for example in the form of an additional 1TB configuration.
Cameras
Digital Chat Station also reports (via GizmoChina) that Oppo will continue to work with Hasselblad to integrate a powerful triple camera system into the Find N5.
This setup reportedly includes a 50Mp main sensor, a 50Mp ultra-wide lens and a 50Mp periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, which again they claim is present.

As a reminder, the OnePlus Open has five cameras: a 48Mp main camera, 64Mp 3x telephoto and 48Mp ultrawide on the rear, plus 32Mp inner selfie and 20Mp cover selfie lenses.
There is currently no information on whether the selfie camera on the OnePlus Open 2 will change compared to its predecessor.
Battery and charging
The OnePlus Open is equipped with a 4805 mAh battery, which will give most users a full day of use under normal circumstances. But you’ll struggle with more intensive use, making battery life a major weak point.
In July, Digital Chat Station (via Android Authority) revealed that Oppo and Vivo are developing large foldable phones that will launch as early as the first quarter of 2025, with the Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and a sizable 6,000mAh battery.
Now the same source reports that the Find N5 (the basis for the Open 2 as a reminder) will have a dual-cell battery configuration with a nominal capacity of 5565 mAh, which will likely reach a normal capacity of around 5700 mAh.

The OnePlus Open has 67W fast charging, with the necessary charger included in the box. It can be charged to 50% in just 15 minutes and is fully charged in less than 45 minutes.
While exact details about the Oppo Find N5/OnePlus Open 2’s wired charging speeds are yet to be confirmed, the device is rumored to support both wireless and magnetic wireless charging, offering users flexibility.
Digital Chat Station also claims that the phone can be charged wirelessly.
Software
Since it’s now been confirmed that the latest OnePlus devices will be getting an update to Android 15 this month along with OxygenOS 15, it’s safe to assume that the OnePlus Open 2 will most likely debut with it as well.
All the current multitasking features available on the OnePlus Open will likely make their way to the Open 2 as well, as well as with some new additions.
