The Max “Pretty Little Liars” series has been canceled after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.
The series originally debuted on the streamer in 2022, subtitled “Original Sin.” The second season, subtitled ‘Summer School’, aired between May and June 2024.
“While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ we thank our co-creators, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, as well as the team at Warner Bros. Television so grateful for We’re reintroducing fans to this new version of liars teaming up to fight the latest creepy villain to terrify Millwood,” Max said in a statement. “Their unique and modern creative vision – combined with the immense talent of our cast and crew – gave the series a fun, horror perspective that paid tribute to the original Rosewood roots.”
The Max series starred Bailee Madison, Chandler Kinney, Zaria, Malia Pyles, Maia Reficco, Mallory Bechtel, Sharon Leal, Alex Aiono, Jordan Gonzalez and Elias Kacavas.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring created the series and served as executive producers. Aguirre-Sacasa’s Muckle Man Productions and Alloy Entertainment are producing, in association with Warner Bros. Television. Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo are also executive producers, along with Marlene King, who developed the original “Pretty Little Liars” series, and Michael Grassi.
This was the fourth TV series in the ‘Pretty Little Liars’ franchise, all of which are based on or inspired by the book series written by Sara Shepard. The original “Pretty Little Liars” aired on Freeform (formerly ABC Family) for seven seasons, ending in 2017. It was followed by the spinoffs “Ravenswood” and “Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists,” both of which aired on what is now Freeform.
