The Duke of Sussex has been a patron of Well Child – an organization that raises money for children and young people in exceptional health to be cared for at home rather than in hospitals – for the past 16 years.
The non-profit organisation’s annual event, held on Monday 30 September, celebrates the inspiring qualities of Britain’s seriously ill children and young people, along with those making a difference to their lives.
“Harry is great with children and spent a long time backstage with all the winners before the event started,” the Observer said Us. “He was just chatting to them all and even learning things about them first, so it was intimate and moving. He’s so good at that kind of thing, dealing with kids.
Perhaps it helps that Harry, 40, is a father himself. If he doesn’t support important causes close to his heart, Prince WilliamThe boy’s brother is likely to be found in California, where he is raising his son, Archie, 5, and daughter Lillibet, 3, with his wife Meghan Markle.
Speaking to the audience attending the WellChild Awards, Harry shared a glimpse into his own fatherhood journey.
“As a parent, I know a little about the emotional rollercoaster of parenthood,” he told the audience. “But when I hear about the care that many of your mothers, fathers and relatives provide; the level of 24-hour care you provide; the skills you had to learn; and the fight for support you fight every day – I am truly in awe. You are all incredible, and your love and dedication are nothing short of heroic.”
During his speech, Harry pledged to continue his support for the organization. He also said that working with the foundation is something he is “tremendously proud” of.
“For many of us, it’s a daily life we can barely imagine, and yet somehow the young people I meet are always smiling and every room they walk into seems to be lit with warmth and positivity,” he said. ‘So be yourself. You got this. And we have you.”
After visiting London, Harry was expected to travel to Africa where he would have lunch with Princess Senate Seeiso of Lesotho.
