On Monday, a pro-Palestinian protest broke out outside the New York Stock Exchange. There was no disruption to trading and none of the protesters appeared to reach the historic trading floor.

NYSE security barriers close off an area outside the building’s exterior on Broad Street in Lower Manhattan. According to a video shared on social media, the group representing Jewish Voices for Peace broke into that area and protesters chained themselves to the security fence and some exterior doors. Some protesters were arrested and zip-tied away, the videos showed.

The exchange restricted access to the building due to the protests. The NYPD removed the last people inside the exterior security gate around noon. There were still people outside the outer gate.

Chants such as “we want housing, not genocide” and “let Gaza live” were heard in a livestream on social media platform X.

“While Gaza is being bombed, Wall Street is thriving,” Jewish Voices for Peace on X said in a post Monday. “Arms manufacturer stock prices have skyrocketed this year. America’s war economy benefits from genocide.”

The NYSE declined to comment.

The protest followed the ongoing bloodshed in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, sparked by Hamas’ attack on southern Israel just over a year ago. Israel has since launched a military assault on Gaza. The NYSE has had heavy security in place since the September 11 attacks on the nearby World Trade Center buildings.
