“I think most designers would agree that pre-fall is one of the most difficult collections to design,” said Robert Geller during Rag & Bone’s menswear presentation. “You don’t have all the good stuff, the outerwear and the layers to work with.” Instead, Geller worked on pieces that could be layered, using lightweight construction and innovative technology like Miramar, Airflex and more.
True to his laissez-faire style, Geller created easy-to-wear sets in linen tailoring, sporty terry tracksuits and sleek and comfortable nylon shirts and chinos. He paid extra attention to how men would wear these clothes in the real world by adding functional details, such as lots of pockets, to the clothes. “Men need pockets. You need places to put your phones, keys and things like that because we often don’t carry bags,” Geller said.
For a designer who values beautiful clothes as much as they value practicality, his philosophy this season was all about convenience. “What we do at Rag & Bone is we have a lot of innovation in fabrics and fabrics that don’t wrinkle. Most of it is very simple, but you still look quite dressed.
