Prime Video’s “Reacher” universe expands with the series order of the spinoff “The Untitled Neagley Project,” starring Maria Sten.
“The Untitled Neagley Project” focuses on Sten’s Frances Neagley, a private investigator in Jack Reacher’s inner circle. “When she learns that a beloved friend from her past has been killed in a suspicious accident, she becomes determined to get justice,” the show’s synopsis reads. “Using everything she learned from Jack Reacher and her time as a member of the 110 Special Investigators, Neagley sets herself on a dangerous path to uncover an impending evil.”
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, made the announcement Tuesday at the Prime Video Presents: Trailblazers event in London. “Reacher” series creator Nick Santora developed “The Untitled Neagley Project” with “Law & Order” writer Nicholas Wootton, and the two will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers. The show is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Skydance Television and CBS Studios. Although a release date has not yet been announced, “The Untitled Neagley Project” will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories.
“As ‘Reacher’ continues to resonate in profound ways with our global customers, expanding the stories and characters with a spinoff was an easy decision,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios. “With Nick and Nicholas and our partners Skydance and CBS Studios, we are confident that this new chapter, starring the amazing Maria Sten, will not only honor the legacy of ‘Reacher’ but also bring new energy and excitement for new and old fans alike.”
“Reacher,” starring Alan Ritchson, is based on Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher” book series and has become one of Prime Video’s most successful shows. It is currently in development for season 3.
“Lee Child created an immensely rich character in Neagley, and Maria Sten brought her to life in such a vibrant, authentic way in Reacher,” Santora and Wootton said in a statement. “Amazon, Skydance Television and CBS Studios have been great partners from the beginning, and we’re excited to further explore Neagley’s story and dive into what makes her so unique.”
Sten added: “I’m extremely excited to continue exploring the world of Neagley and her somewhat mysterious background. She’s such a great character to play and I’m really excited for everyone to get to know her a little better.”
In addition to Santora and Wootton, the series is executive produced by Child, Don Granger and Lisa Kussner with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Matt Thunell for Skydance Television. Carolyn Harris, Kenny Madrid and Niko Fernandez will oversee the project for Skydance.
