Premier League Wolves remain loyal to manager Gary O’Neill despite his team’s winless start to the season and the fact they sit bottom of the table with just one point.
The club have parted ways with their set-pieces coach, Jack Wilson, after conceding set-pieces in five of their seven matches.
Currently, winless Wolves look a determined certainty of losing their next few games, taking on Manchester City and Brighton. Currently, by most accounts, Wolves are around 8/1 in beating last season’s champions gambling sites in Great Britainwhile Gary O’Neill is second favorite to be the next manager to be sacked at 7/2.
After finishing the 2023/2024 season in 14th place, Wolves fans and staff had hoped to continue this season. Working on a somewhat limited budget, they brought in just under £60 million in new players during the summer transfer window, but saw highly-rated winger Pedro Neto leave for Chelsea, while Maximilian Kilman also left for West Ham. In total, Wolves saw a net transfer income of over £30 million.
And after seven games, some observers might be questioning the club’s transfer policy as they sit bottom of the table with a single point picked up in a 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest. However, they have had a very difficult run of games to start the season, coming up against Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool, as well as high-flying neighbors Aston Villa.
Wolves’ most recent match was against mid-table Brentford. Next the 5-3 defeatmanager Gary O’Neill described the match as the most disappointing of his tenure – a sentiment shared by the Wolves board. Sporting director Matt Hobbs said after the match that everyone at the club expects more.
However, in a show of confidence in O’Neill, who signed a new contract in the summer after his successful first season, Hobbs said the club is looking at ways to support the manager. He also acknowledged that the club has played most of the big teams in the division and has yet to be completely outclassed in any match.
Things won’t get any easier in the team’s next match, when they take on champions Manchester City, currently in second place, and then sixth-placed Brighton. After that, they have an easier series of games against rivals Crystal Palace and Southampton.
Although the club continues to have faith in the manager, they have done so parted ways with coach Jack Wilson. Wilson was appointed in the summer after previously working at Manchester City. He was the club’s first dedicated coach, but after conceding the most goals from set pieces in the league and scoring only one in return, the manager and club collectively decided to let Wilson go.
