Requiem for Vengeance's 'Fortnite' game launches

Netflix’s new animated series “Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance” heads to “Fortnite” on Friday with the release of the game “Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance – Red vs. Blue.”

Developed by “Gundam” IP owner Bandai Namco Entertainment America and Bungie founder Alexander Seropian’s user-generated content studio Look North World via Unreal Engine for “Fortnite,” the game is described as “a competitive, team-based experience” that allows 20 players in each match “to join the Zeon or Earth Federation Forces factions and join the fight.”

“When a match begins, players select their battlefield and deploy to their respective bases to equip themselves with an arsenal of their choice,” according to the “Red vs. Blue” rules. “The primary objectives are to engage in tactical combat to secure the valuable MS Reactor Power. Factions are assigned a cache near their base, and additional caches are spread throughout the terrain. Players acquire MS Reactor Power from the caches. Teams must work together strategically to collect 200 MS Reactor Power, which they can then use to activate their faction’s signature Mobile Suit, be it the Gundam EX or ZAKU II (Unidentified Type) Solari, and have a devastating effect on the tide of the battle.

In a first for ‘Fortnite’, ‘Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance – Red vs. Blue’ feature an immersive first-person cockpit view, giving players the experience of being a real ‘Gundam’ pilot in a mobile suit.

“Because the ‘Gundam’ Mobile Suits are so unique and there is so much awe and presence just in sight – whether you are watching a show, playing with the toys, or in the game while the Mobile Suit appears, you can’t miss it, and you want to be in it right away, driving it and wreaking havoc on the spot,” Seropian shared Variety.

According to Bandai Namco, the game includes access to a “vast arsenal of popular weapons in each faction’s arsenal to maximize combat and robot takedowns while minimizing questing, looting, and traversal.” Players will be ranked on the weekly global leaderboards and compete to win in-game currency Vbucks and Gunpla model kits from “Gudam: Requiem for Vengeance.”

Bandai Namco is working with Look North World to prepare future updates for the “Fortnite” game and plan additions tied to possible future seasons of the Netflix “Gundam” series, while also considering how that fits in the larger “Gundam” franchise – including an upcoming film.

“We have a lot of beats coming up for ‘Gundam’ as an IP: on the animation side, some beats coming up on the video game side, for PC/Console we have some beats coming up on the mobile gaming side,” said Karim Farghaly, senior vice president president of business development for Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. “There are certain new content releases that we are definitely considering for different types of experiences depending on the demographic reach.

“’Gudam’ is a brand founded in 1979. It’s obviously huge in Asia. There is incredible potential for us in the US market. The response to the show has been phenomenal so far. We expect the ‘Fortnite’ experience to have the same. So I think depending on the kind of universes and the new content and spin-offs that we create from the brand, there will definitely be different experiences. But certainly the content, in terms of linear, the video game content and the toy content, will always be part of this.”

“Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance – Red vs. Blue” is available in “Fortnite” with island code 7089-7797-5952. Watch the new game’s launch trailer via the video above.
