King, best known for her 2015 hit “Ex’s and Oh’s,” said her relationship with Schneider was quite rocky at times, due to long periods of no contact and what she called his sharp criticism of her appearance.
“I go four or five years without talking to my dad,” King told the podcast host Bunnie XO. “If I ever spent a summer with my dad, it would be on a movie set. I would just get lost in the shuffle.
“It’s nice to be a parent, isn’t it?” Schneider told Carlson before attempting to send a public message to King.
“I want to say to my daughter Elle, I love you and I wish I was the dad in my 20s that you needed, and clearly I wasn’t,” he said. “And I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely. I love you completely.”
He added: “I just want you to be well and happy with you and your beautiful baby, Lucky. I wish you the best. I feel terrible, and I want you to know that I don’t take anything you say personally.
King has not yet responded to her father’s comments.
