The Gladiator actor discussed that he would soon turn 60 and told the interviewer that he “couldn’t believe it.” He explained that his mind wasn’t ready to accept it yet, but the injuries he had suffered on his body over the years forced him to feel it.
He explained: “I have no cartilage in my big toes because the sports I played were all lateral movement sports – tennis, rugby and cricket, where you sprint from a cold start – on top of the fighting scenes, where sometimes you have to make a very extreme sudden making a move to save yourself in a situation where something has gone wrong.
Crowe listed a number of injuries he has suffered during his decades-long career as an actor. He suffers from fasciitis, shin splints, bone marrow edema below both knees and has several problems with his back.
“I have ribs that just separate from the spine if I put too much pressure on them,” he continued. “I’ve had two surgeries on my left shoulder, but now that shoulder is so riddled with arthritis that in order to get it back to a comfortable place, they actually have to intervene and take out the entire humeral head.” We have to cut it in half, put carbon fiber in it and sew it back up, and there’s an 11-month recovery period.”
