During its latest earnings call, Samsung confirmed that it plans to launch XR (extended reality) headsets next year, along with the Galaxy S25 name and hints at a more affordable foldable phone.
Samsung first announced at last year’s Galaxy S23 Unpacked event that it was working on a wearable device with support for augmented, mixed and virtual reality. It will run a modified version of Android and be powered by a Qualcomm chip, possibly the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2.
According to 9to5Google, Samsung was expected to release a developer version of the device in October 2024, but this did not happen. However, Samsung EVP Jaejune Kim told us that Samsung is “preparing a new form factor” for users looking for a powerful and innovative mobile experience, which could potentially point to the upcoming Extended Reality device.
IDC analyst Bryan Ma noted in one of the presentation’s slides that the S25 branding was confirmed for its “2025 outlook.” Although notable without the Galaxy branding.
Just below that it says: “Improve connectivity between products, including upcoming XR devices, to further enhance user experiences across the Galaxy ecosystem.”

The XR headset could use Micro-OLED or OLEDoS panels with a high refresh rate and multiple cameras. There’s some debate over whether it will be a headset like an Apple Vision Pro or XR glasses, although we can get both.
Cheaper foldable phones?
Interestingly enough, Jaejune Kim also talked about the possibility of developing more affordable foldable phones.
Because their foldables have “high customer satisfaction,” the company is considering “lowering purchase barriers” to make them more accessible.
Previously, a Samsung representative denied rumors of a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold, so it’s unclear if the company has changed its mind or is just working on a cheaper version of the Z Flip.
