South Korean tech giant Samsung has developed a new wireless charging chip that will offer an upgrade to much faster wireless charging.
Qi2 is coming to phones in 2025, as is support for the new Qi2.2 wireless standard, launching later this year.

The new chip, S2MIW06, could charge up to 50W wirelessly. This is a huge improvement over Samsung’s flagship phone from last year, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, which only supported 15W wireless charging.
However, it is unclear whether the new chip will be present in Samsung’s new Galaxy S25 phones to be unveiled next week.
According to previous reports, the phones won’t have built-in support for Qi2 charging, but hopefully things have changed since then and it would help Samsung differentiate itself from rivals like Apple and Google.
The technology could also find its way to other Samsung devices.
